GUI flashes while digging

This is probably one of the oldest bugs I have in Voxelands, and probably it is one of the most frustrating ones.
I can still reproduce this in 1709.00, under GNU/Linux. I have cleared all settings before starting Voxelands just for testing this.

Whenever I'm break a block, the block and most of the GUI (wieldring, chat, etc.) flashes horribly. A “flash” means that all the GUI elements and the block itself disappear for a brief moment.
Each “flashing” happens when the “crack” overlay image advances by one step.

This does not always happen for every digging, however.

From my observations it seems the condition for the flicker to happen is that the block type has never been dug in this session before. The second time you dig it, the flickering is gone.

E.g. if you dig dirt the first time, it flickers, but subsequent digs are flicker-free.

This bug is still terribly annoying.

How to reproduce:
- Start Voxelands.
- Make sure GUI is enabled.
- Dig some blocks.

Operating system: GNU/Linux 4.16.5
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz
Graphics: Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller
Graphics kernel module: i915
Version: 1709.00 (and many, many versions prior to that)
