1602.00

It's that time again! Voxelands 1602.00 is now released.

Quite a bit has happened since last year, so this release has quite a massive number of changes in it. But to break it down a bit, here's what's new.

New-look Space, Jungle, and Desert biome's have been officially added to mapgen. Parts of this were already there, but they've all been refurbished and updated, including:
Asteroids and debris in space, there's a lot of minerals up there now.
Space Rock is a new type of rock that can only be found in space.
Jungles now have new fern-style plants in them, and a new ground cover.
Deserts now have their own sand, and are typically larger than they used to be.

You can find the new-look jungle and desert biomes just by exploring the map, but to get to space you need to get above level 1000. To do this, you can now craft 4 Oerkki dust with mithril dust to create Space Dust; this will teleport 1500 blocks up (just make sure you wear a space suit!). But be warned, even a space suit may not protect you completely, as you could appear in the middle of a lava asteroid! It's a risk, but there's asteroids with thousands of mineral and metal blocks in them to tempt you. Best to take a home flag and life support system up with you, to claim a safe base.

Other graphical improvements include lots of new higher-resolution textures by sdzen and nic96, more realistic leaf rendering, flare effects on light sources, variable ground height, new-look grass edges, overhanging grass, some bug fixes, and plants in water are now shown as in the water, instead of that odd hole-in-the-water effect.
You can adjust all these looks to get the best performance using the new Terrain Mesh Detail, Texture Detail, and Lighting Detail settings in the Settings menu.

GagaPete submitted a heap of improvements and bugfixes to the circuits code, so all the electrical components should work better now.
Nascher has implemented XDG base directory spec' for all the *nix users, with automatic imports, and has also supplied a Steam Controller configuration.

Parcels have been improved upon, this should mean you're less likely to lose your inventory completely in Survival mode.

The damage system has had a heavy rewrite, there's now more fine-grained control over how players can be damaged. This includes an addition to the HUD which shows where you last took damage, and what from. JHeaton got stuck in, and rewrote all the clothing protection values to work with the new damage system, and made some improvements to clothing durability. In amongst these changes we've (hopefully) fixed the issue of continuing to take damage after death (and have added a death animation to the player model too).

Other changes include:
Stopped glass doors from being able to be used as furnace fuel.
Made seeds burnable in furnaces.
Some networking improvements.
Yet more work on mob spawning.
Added icy lake shores in winter.

As usual downloads are available from the Downloads page.
The mac build should be available shortly.

That asteroid has more mithril in it than will fit in your inventory!

Re: 1602.00

Wow, the new look is awesome! Played 1512.00 Singleplayer, and the difference is fantastic.

Compiled fresh 1602 tarball at Ubuntu 14.04 and started survival mode. Everything seems fine, but unfortunately I can't eat, because everytime I try to eat apples, they are packed into a parcel. Can't tell about other food. I met a single jungle leaf in a parcel, too, just lying around. Maybe I should post this at Bugs.

Re: 1602.00

About fern-style plant - does it replace jungle grass or it's a new plant type?

Re: 1602.00

Both, there's two types, one replaces junglegrass, the other is new. But with low terrain mesh detail the old-style jungle grass will show.

Re: 1602.00

Hello, I just upgraded from 1510 to 1602, on Linux Mint 17, and I have some problems with my old local map.
I see only a small portion of the map, and if I dig a block, it is removed, but I can still see it until I close and reopen the game.
If I create a new map or I play online is all ok.
