1409.00

It's that time again! 1409.00 is released!

There's a lot of cool things in this release:

As soon as you start the game, you should notice the new loading screen; much nicer than the previous mess.
The single player menu also gives a lot more options.
Trees now grow in stages, plant a sapling and it'll go through 2 extra stages before becoming fully grown.
The bug with digging a craft guide turned it back into a plain book was fixed.
You can now make a 'home flag', place it, and when you die you'll respawn at your flag. There's several colours to choose from too.
Oh, and if you kill an oerkki, you'll get some dust that - when thrown to the ground - will teleport you to your flag.
The player inventory form also now includes a 'drop to ground' slot, which does what it sounds like, this doesn't work the same as placing something on the ground, so you can use this to share stacks of materials, mese dust, and oerkki dust.
There's several new and updated translations; tiemay, soognarf, and Szkodnix jumped in to help there.
Wielded items are visible to other players, finally!
Swapping items in inventory is working properly again. Oh, and you can now click on the different text areas when editing a book.
There are now three seperate game modes, instead of the old creative_mode setting, there's now game_mode = creative/adventure/survival.
Survival mode also adds hunger and suffocation/drowning.
Lastly, you can now craft a key tool, with this you can lock and unlock your chests, signs, and furnaces. It won't let you unlock anyone else's though!

As there's now three game modes, servers.voxelands.com:30000 has been changed to a new Survival Mode server.
The old 'Main' server is now on port 30003.

Downloads are of course at the download page as usual.

Re: 1409.00

Packagers note that icons should now be installed by the name of `voxelands` instead of `voxelands-icon`

Packagers note: Actually, installation of the icons and .desktop files are handled automagically while compiling now, so you shouldn't need to do this yourself anymore.

I'm glad to see a new version of the game smile
Anyway: how can I change game language? wink

I know you know this from when we talked on irc, but I'll post it here for the record. As far as I know, currently the only way is to change the language of your operating system. If this either isn't practical (I've read at least some versions of windows need to be totally reinstalled in order to change languages, though it looks less bad if you have windows 7 or 8 ultimate edition), or if you don't want to do that for whatever reason, you could try using a virtual machine and changing it's system language. I had a couple problems with voxelands in virtualbox, but found a workaround in the end.

I would like to add a way to switch to a language other then the system language, but that might be beyond me.

The problem is that I do have my OS in Polish. And it still keeps running English version of the game.

Re: 1409.00

Szkodnix: if you're using the windows build, it's currently English only. The Mac builds, or compiling from source on any other platform works with other languages.

Re: 1409.00

Hi

I can't find the branch to compile.
Am I missing something, or should I just compile the master?

Re: 1409.00

Compile master, it's always the latest release, we do development in a differant branch.

Thanks!

Developing in a different branch to the master makes sense but, it didn't seem to be working like that before
