1411.00-1411.03

A week earlier than planned, 1411.00 is released!

Firstly, several people noticed a major slowdown in 1410.00, it seems the mob spawning code was trying to eat the cpu; even when it didn't spawn a mob. This has been fixed... or so I'm told, I never actually experienced the problem.
If it's not fixed, blame tiemay. smile

The big thing for this release: a character creator and clothes.
You'll see this when you start 1411.00 for the first time, you can now change the look of your character (gender, height, width, skin colour, face, hair colour, hair style, clothing). There are several million possible combinations in the character creator, plus hundreds of more clothes items available in-game.

Not all clothing is the same:
Cotton is the most basic, it wears out quickest, and gives the least protection against cold, animal attack, or suffocation.
Canvas wears a little slower, and is slightly better against cold, but doesn't do much against an animal attack.
Fur wears even slower, gives the best protection against cold, and some armour effect against animal attack.
Leather wears the slowest, and protects moderately against cold and animal attack, and even a tiny boost against the vacuum of space.
Copper armour defends well against animal attack, but wears fairly quickly, and gives no protection against the cold.
Steel armour wears slowly, gives the best protection against animal attack, and mild protection against cold.
The space suit recipe has changed slightly, but it's still the only way to survive for any appreciable time in space, and the helmet is also still the only way to breath underwater when drowning is enabled.

Most materials can be made into shoes or boots; shoes are cheaper, but give slightly less protection than boots.

There's also some decorative things, like belts, ties, and a necklace.

Medallions though, give your clothes a durability boost; wear a medallion and your clothes will wear slower. So you can stay alive in space, in the coldzone, or against an animal attack for a little longer.

The size of your player doesn't affect the collision box; so making a short and thin player won't let you fit through small spaces. On the other hand, your height does affect your viewpoint in-game.

Onto other things:
The translation team have been piling bug reports on to me, so we now have freetype support (add -DENABLE_FREETYPE=1 to cmake when compiling), and a whole heap of locale changes and adjustments in menu and button sizes to ensure verbose languages fit better.
Redhound has also made a Russian translation.

If you haven't seen any fireflies lately, it's because they were flying inside solid rock; that's been fixed.
You should now see 3D items instead of just sprites when you drop something to the ground. Also, some items will now vanish after a few minutes; this is basically me getting sick of picking up saplings.
Punching air now has a swinging sound effect, rather than hearing the effect for whatever you last pointed at.
Same with punching mobs, they grunt now.
The chat popup has been scrapped in favour of a little text entry at the lower right; you still press 't' to chat, then just enter or escape to send or abort your message.

There were also a few other bug fixes:
- fix extruded sprite (wield item) not extruding correctly
- make mush cookable to ash
- fix infotext being written over top of forms
- slight optimisation of server and client data processing
- rebalance tools for attacking creatures
- some map speedups
- stop menu text duplicating on window resize
- make pine tile better

Oh, and the menu background is a little prettier than the previous dirt wall.

As usual, downloads are available from the download page.
The Mac OSX build has been delayed a little, it will be up very soon.

1411.02 has just been pushed up, as a couple of last minute bugs were found and fixed.

It was discovered that the initial upload of the windows build was missing some textures, causing the character creator to not work right.

If you download it again, this problem has now been fixed.

The same issue is present in the Mac build, this is being worked on.

The character creation screen l10n is fixed in 1411.03, but inventory window still have some "???":

Some other issues:

- When I logged in with the new client first time, all inventory items lost.
- Then my character dies, it respawns at (0,0,0), not by the home flag. Removing / placing home flag again seems to fix this.
- Disabling free_move in the air often have strange effect as if my char stuck (partially) and couldn't fall, but still cannot move in the horizontal plane.

I also experience more server lags (map loading, object placing / removing, etc.) Most annoying thing is respawn on die, when respawn dialog appears a tens of times before (and after!) the respawn is done.

Currently working on Russian translation update.
