Diving Helmet

Very new to the game, so forgive me if something like this already exists, but how about allowing the crafting of a diving helmet? Once crafted, it would allow a player to walk (slowly) on the bottom of the ocean for a period of time. This would open up a whole new area to explore.

The recipe for it could be something like an upside down "U" of copper ingots with a glass pane in the center of it and the main effect in-game would be drastically slowing down how quickly an underwater player loses their breath. Instead of being able to swim underwater, players with a diving helmet would only be able to jump one block high before settling back to the bottom.

Re: Diving Helmet

There already exists an item in game to protect against the vacuum of space and suffocation...."Space suits"

I don't know what the recipe is to craft a space suit, but you can make a Craft Guide (which should include the recipe for it).

Re: Diving Helmet

Yeah, I actually found space pants in a chest in one of those cobblestone rooms one time smile

Do those work underwater?

Yes the space suite works underwater (because it protects against suffocation damage which is the same damage you receive in space as well as underwater). (http://forum.voxelands.com/viewtopic.php?id=321)

I suppose that you would need more than just 'space pants' to achieve the full protection.

Namely you would need to find or craft these items to have a complete space suit:
Space Suit Pants
Space Suit Shirt
Space Suit Helmet
Space Suit Boots

Re: Diving Helmet

Have to look into making a full suit once I get all the resources back. Game starts crashing after a certain point for me and I have to restart from scratch. Don't know if it's just too much memory after I dig a certain dept of mines/build a certain amount of structures, or what.

If you built from the latest source and enabled debug mode, you could use gdb or some other debugger to get a backtrace when it crashes.
You could then file a bug report, including the backtrace, over on https://gitlab.com/voxelands/voxelands/issues)

These are the commands that I use to build from the git source (the current version is 1608.01):
$ git clone https://gitlab.com/voxelands/voxelands
$ cd voxelands
$ git checkout -t remotes/origin/next
$ cmake . -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=DEBUG -DRUN_IN_PLACE=1
$ make -j4
$ gdb ./bin/voxelands

Re: Diving Helmet

I used the Windows installer. I don't think there's a debugger included unless it's buried in the Voxelands folders.

There isn't a debugger supplied with voxelands.

I compile and run voxelands on Debian Linux and debug with gdb.

You could try downloading and installing mingw for windows (which should include a gdb debugger)

Re: Diving Helmet

You do not need the complete suit for diving, only the helmet.
